What Is Claude Cowork (Really)?
Claude Cowork is Anthropic’s new desktop-only mode that turns Claude into an agentic coworker on your Mac.
Under the hood, it uses the same agent “brain” as Claude Code, but instead of pointing that intelligence at a code repository, you point it at your real project folders.
That shift sounds small, but it’s the difference between “assistant in a chat” and “teammate operating inside your workflow.”
Why This Is Different
Most AI tools still behave like a single-turn assistant. You prompt, it responds, you stitch things together.
Cowork is built for multi-step outcomes. The interaction becomes: here’s the goal + here’s the folder.
Examples:
“Turn these meeting notes and CSVs into a client-ready deck and a one-pager.”
“Review last quarter’s reports and draft an exec summary.”
“Sort this messy downloads folder and tell me what matters.”
In other words, it’s less “generate text” and more “produce artifacts.”
